The Family group: LIMITED EDITION

The Limited Edition of 100 bronze statue is a scaled down, desk size sculpt made by Castaño inspired by Henry Moore’s larger outdoor sculpture.  This bronze is sold for $8,000 to $10,000 in our Fine Art Galleries.

This exquisite Limited Edition of only 100 is signed by the sculptor Castaño with copyright stamp and edition number in the bronze casting. The etched brass plate on the marble has Family Group and Henry Moore. Within the bronze sculpture exist FOUR stylized figures—a mother, a father and 2 children. Though they have very sparse features, the anatomy shown is enough for the viewer to ‘fill in the blanks’ and recognize the shapes as human, thereby evoking a reflexive empathy for the family scene depicted. Family Group illustrates this idea to perfection. However, in addition to encouraging automatic recognition, the style also helps the sculpture achieve a tone of great intimacy—while both adult figures maintain their distinction as separate entities, their outstretched arms fuse and blend, becoming one with the figure of their child.

Be sure to acquire one of these limited editions of 100 copyrighted signed and numbered castings before they’re gone as it will be a great investment in modern art.

Henry Moore made large-scale modernist sculptures of the human form. While he took inspiration from African and pre-Columbian art, along with the work of his contemporaries such as Pablo Picasso and Alberto Giacometti, Moore developed his own visual language using marble and bronze. Throughout his career, the artist carved the Madonna and Child, nuclear families, and single figures in repose. His style embraced hollows, crevices, and undulating, biomorphic shapes that all complicated the boundary between figuration and abstraction. The son of a Yorkshire coal miner, Moore enjoyed his first overseas retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in 1946. He swiftly became an international sensation. In 1948, he represented Great Britain at the Venice Biennale and won the International Sculpture Prize. Today, Moore’s sculptures can be found in public parks and plazas worldwide and in the collections of the Tate, the Guggenheim Museum, the Hammer Museum, the Stedelijk Museum, and the Art Gallery of Ontario. In 2016, Moore’s Reclining Figure: Festival (1951) sold for $33.1 million—a major auction record for the artist.

Moore himself explained the reason behind his conceptualization of human figures in an interview in 1959: “If you see a friend in the distance, you don’t recognize him by the color of his eyes (these you are unable to see) but by the total effect made by his figure—the general disposition of the forms.”

Color Choices – We usually cast and finish many of our sculptures with what is referred as multi-color patina. Our bronze sculpture selection may also be customized in a number of fire-applied patinas, such as classic French Brown, Verdigris, Italian Green as well as Gold and other custom finish options. Bronze is a durable material that can withstand the test of time, making it a popular choice for sculptures that can last for centuries. All bronze statuary will develop a natural patina when left in nature’s elements. The aged patina on bronzes is often desired, but if not, can be prevented by care and cleaning of the bronze statue with a mild soap and water and by applying beeswax or other polish to prevent an aged patina from forming. Color selection is more a matter of customer preference. Free shipping on all statues.
