• Alloy Quality: American bronzes typically use a standard foundry alloy (such as “Everdur,” which is about 95% copper, 4% silicon, and 1% manganese). This higher copper content creates a rich patina and develops a beautiful, gradual color over time. In contrast, cheaper imported Asian bronzes often use a lower copper content, which does not accept patinas well and requires the application of impermanent chemical dyes.
• Craftsmanship & Finishing: American foundries rely on meticulous, hands-on lost-wax casting methods. This preserves the sharp details, textures, and structural integrity of the artist’s original vision. Budget Asian imports are frequently mass-produced from photographs rather than original models, leading to softened details, visible casting seams, and overall poorer craftsmanship.
• Authenticity & IP: American art features a strong tradition of signed, limited-edition runs or original works. Asian imports (especially mass-produced reproductions of famous Western sculptors like Frederic Remington) often have less legal protection and result in cheap, inauthentic counterfeits.
